Associate Professor Dr. Zarina Zakaria is an Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Business and Economics in the Universiti Malaya. She is currently the Head of the Department and was the Head of Risk Management and Documentation Unit at the University. She received her PhD degree in Business and Management, University of Nottingham in 2011 and her PhD thesis was on sustainable waste management and accountability of public sector. Her areas of expertise are Sustainability Practices and Reporting, as well Accountability and Governance in Public Sector She is member of Qualitative Research Association Malaysia.

Dr. Zarina is one of the Audit and Risk Committee Member of Pelaburan Mara Berhad, and sits in the Educational and Technical Committee of MICPA as well as the Interpretations Committee of MASB. She served as a Council Member of MIA during March 2019 – February 2023, a Committee Member of MIA Auditing and Assurance Standards Board, MIA Disciplinary Committee and chaired the MIA Examination Committee.

As a qualitative researcher, she has published her work in various reputable academic journals such as Accounting Forum, Managerial Auditing Journal and Meditari Accountancy Research and Sustainability as well as books adopted for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
