Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohamad Zabidi Ahmad previously served as the Senior Managing Director and Regional Head of Islamic Treasury at Treasury and Markets, Group Wholesale Banking, CIMB Group. With 38 years of experience in the banking industry, including 19 years in Group Treasury, he has expertise in conventional and Islamic banking, corporate finance (deposits, investment, client solutions), interbank activities, marketing, fixed income and derivatives, as well as product development and structuring. His overseas experience includes a 5-year tenure as Chief Dealer in London. Since 2006, he has been instrumental in developing the Islamic Treasury franchise for CIMB Group in various regions, including the United Kingdom, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, and Thailand.

Under his leadership, CIMB Group received recognition as the “Best Islamic Bank for Treasury Management in the world among Islamic banks” at the IFN Award 2019 and secured the second-best position in 2020. He previously managed around RM120 billion of Islamic assets for Group Islamic Banking and held various positions within the CIMB Group, such as Chairman of the Investment Account Oversight Committee (IAOC), committee member in the Group Islamic Management Committee (GIBC), Treasury & Market Committee (TMC), and Group Islamic Wholesale Banking Committee (GIWBC). After retiring from the group, he is currently working freelance in financial and Islamic finance advisory roles.

Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohamad Zabidi Ahmad actively participated in the establishment of the Bursa Suq Al-Sila’ Commodity House in 2009 and the International Islamic Liquidity Management (IILM) in 2013. He served as the Chairman of AIBIM Treasury & Markets and led the CMTC Sukuk Index Task Force, successfully launching the Sovereign & Corporate Bloomberg-AIBIM-Bursa Sukuk Index in September 2012. In 2018, AIBIM launched practice notes on Qard and Commodity Murabaha for AIBIM members under his leadership. He presented papers on Islamic Treasury’s products to various central bank officers, including the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), the Central Bank of the Republic of Indonesia (BI), and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). He also established a new Islamic Repo Structure product for CIMB Islamic Bank in 2019, the first of its kind in the world.

He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and a Bachelor in Accountancy with Honors from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). He is a Chartered Accountant and a practicing Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), holding the Associate Qualification of Islamic Finance (AQIF) from the Islamic Banking & Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) and Chartered Professional in Islamic Finance (CPIF) from the Chartered Institute of Islamic Finance (CIIF). He completed the Oxford Leadership Executives Programme at Sa’id Business School and the Cambridge Sustainability Leadership Programme (OLEP) at the University of Cambridge Sustainable Finance (CISL).

He served as a committee member in the Islamic Finance Committee of MIA from 2017 to 2021 and was reappointed in September 2023. He has been appointed as an Industry Distinguished Research Fellow for the Institute of Sustainable, Growth, and Urban Development of UUM (ISGUD) and a committee member of the Investment Committee for the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) Malaysia. He was awarded the “Best Overall Outstanding Students Award” by OYAGSB and recognized as a “Successful Person in Malaysia” by BritishPedia UK in 2020. He currently holds the position of Adjunct Professor and Member of the Board of Studies for Perdana University School of Business. Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohamad Zabidi Ahmad was chosen as a 28COE (Credential of Entrepreneurs) and received the World Digital Economy Corporate CEO Lifetime Achievement award from KSI Strategic Institute of Asia Pacific on June 28, 2022. Additionally, he has been appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Board Member for BIMB Investment Management Berhad, a subsidiary of Bank Islam Group, and as a Non-Executive Board Member for SitiTrust & Administrative Limited Labuan. In November 2022, he was appointed as a Council Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants by the Ministry of Finance and currently holds the position of Deputy Chairman of the Association of Seniors in Islamic Finance (ARIF). In December 2023, he was elected as the President of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and MAREF Board of Trustee.
